Junqueda

villageDraft

Fishing village in the heart of the Almiar Marshes.

Description

Junqueda lies among the channels of the Almiar River, on islets of reeds, half a day by boat from Marena. Its houses stand on wooden stilts, above the winter floods. Every house has its boat tied to the ladder. The village lives on fishing, on the birds of the marshes and on reeds, which are cut for thatch and for weaving baskets. The people of Junqueda know the channels better than anyone, and in Marena they are paid to guide those who want to come or go unseen.
