Kingdom of Vesperia
Kingdom with its capital at Vesper, which rules the interior of Felgrum in fact and barely reaches Cirda.
Goals
The crown wants to enforce its law in every port and town it claims to govern. Today it has two open fronts: Port Kaelen, which does not always obey what comes from Vesper, and Marena, which does not obey it at all.
Organization
The kingdom takes its name from its capital. The court resides in Vesper, the laws are made there and the tax collectors are sent out from there to the rest of Felgrum. The crown also legislates on magic: only mages certified by the Vesper College of Mages may practice it, and the crown’s mages sit together in the Crown Council of Mages.
Beyond Felgrum its power shrinks. On Cirda it holds a single position, Fort Tarsa, which guards the only pass between the two halves of Cirda. From there it watches and presses Marena. When pirates raid in the kingdom’s waters, the fort’s pressure grows, and that holds them back. The balance is hard to keep and neither side takes it for granted. The towns of Cirda govern themselves.
History
King Gooley ruled with an iron hand until Port Kaelen, then Aurost, rose against him in the Aurost Rebellion. Since then the crown has not truly ruled that city. The wound has closed over the years, but the court still sees Port Kaelen as a danger, because its influence grows and its people consider themselves free.
Allies and enemies
- Port Kaelen: a subject on paper, a rival in practice.
- Council of the Pearl: declared enemy, which the crown lacks the strength to subdue.
